Following the decision in 1975 to change from F5000 to Formula Pacific there was little opportunity for F5000’s to race.
A series continued in Australia and some cars were exported, a small number were converted to Can Am cars but the majority were retired into sheds and garages and rarely saw the light of day. Gone but not forgotten, and over the years there was increasing interest in re-establishing events that would allow the cars to be raced.
In 2003, the F5000 Association was formed and a series of races, the Tasman Cup Revival Series, was organised starting at Pukekohe then moving to Sandown and back for three further rounds in NZ after Christmas. The series is really about the cars and not about the drivers and has run continuously since 2003 with increasing numbers of cars and fans and is now a permanent feature in the Australasian motorsport calendar.
