The Historic and Vintage Racing Association (HVRA) is a Motorsport New Zealand–affiliated organisation dedicated to celebrating and preserving the spirit of historic racing.
Rather than a single class, HVRA unites several vehicle classifications under one grid — Historic, Vintage, Classic, Sports & GT’s and Touring — creating a diverse and exciting mix of race cars spanning decades of motorsport heritage.
Guided by its four core values — Respect, Authenticity, Comradeship, and Encouragement (R.A.C.E.) — HVRA provides a welcoming environment for drivers and enthusiasts who value period-correct machinery and sportsmanship. Authenticity is at the heart of the grid, ensuring cars are presented and raced in historically accurate form, while encouragement ensures those with “almost historic” vehicles have a pathway to full eligibility.
From pre-1966 Vintage racers and 1970s Saloons to Group A Touring Cars and classic Sports & GTs, the HVRA grid showcases genuine, well-prepared cars driven in the true spirit of the era. Operating under Motorsport NZ’s Appendix 6 – Historic regulations, HVRA proudly upholds the discipline of historic motorsport, providing a home for enthusiasts who race for passion, history, and camaraderie — not just for trophies.
